Back in 2014, Voluum established itself as one of the hottest up-and-coming tracking platforms available for affiliates Media Buyers. Fast-forward 6 years to 2020 and this tool has cemented itself as the go-to tracker for marketers around the globe.
At lemonads, we’ve seen thousands of marketers use Voluum to successfully track and optimize countless campaigns. Therefore, we’ve decided to put together a Voluum tracker review to help lemonads users make the most of this innovative tool.
Without further ado, let’s jump in.
A Brief Overview of Voluum review 2020
What is Voluum? Voluum is an innovative Ad tracker for Affiliate Media Buyer. Voluum is an interesting platform for many different reasons. Unlike most trackers of its generation, the team at Voluum has done a great job at keeping up with the ever-changing affiliate landscape. The makers of this robust tracker have rolled out a variety of features and regularly update the interface as well as its capacities.
In addition to its features, Voluum is super-accurate and powerful from a software perspective. It can track multiple campaigns in different languages and currencies without compromising usability or functionality.
Key Voluum Features Every Marketer Needs to Know About
Voluum has a huge number of features, all of which are specifically designed to make the campaign tracking and management process more convenient. That said, in this review we’ll only cover the essential features that make this tracker stand out from the competition. We encourage lemonads users to test out Voluum and explore the additional features available.
It’s important to note that Voluum’s dashboard works as the central hub that pulls the platform together. From this point, you can visualize your campaigns, see any major trends developing, and access the features that allow you to assess performance at any given time.
We’ve found the most valuable Voluum features to be:
Automizer and Traffic Source Integrations
Setting up a tracker is a pretty standard procedure in the affiliate world. But, even experienced marketers can struggle with this step every now and again. This is where Voluum Automizer comes in.
Automizer is their brand new automation tool based on two foundations: traffic source integrations & automation rules.
The first one lets you fully integrate with various traffic sources such as: Facebook Ads, Taboola, Outbrain, MGID, Revcontent, PropellerAds and Exoclick. This allows you to not only set up your campaigns quickly and efficiently, but also perform actions on your campaigns straight from Voluum:
- pause/activate your campaigns,
- bid up or down based on sites, zones & campaigns
- exclude non-converting sites or zones
- auto-update your traffic-source costs
- and create rules
With Automizer you can also set up the basic cost integration with Facebook and Google Ads.
Once you fully integrate specific traffic sources, you will be able to set up your own automation rules:
- Automatically pause or resume campaigns or single custom variables when your conditions are met.
- Get alerts when there are sudden changes in the performance of your campaigns or offers. You can receive them on both desktop and mobile.
- Mark custom variables with colorful icons automatically when they meet set criteria.
Rules feature will allow you to save lots of time and automate a big part of your everyday work.
Traffic Source and Affiliate Network Templates
Besides Full Integrations, Voluum offers you templates for multiple offers, multiple Traffic Sources and Affiliate Networks. This feature includes 35 templates from some of the most common traffic sources and 15+ templates from popular networks that help you hit the ground running.
Different Tracking Options
The most obvious feature a tracker should have is the ability to accurately trace user actions. Voluum takes it to a whole new level by providing tracking features like:
- Direct tracking pixel
- Impression tracking
- Custom conversion tracking
- CPC, CPM, CPA and other cost model tracking
- SSL domain tracking
Needless to say, all of these are ultra-accurate and if you didn’t receive one or more postbacks for your conversions, you can then upload them to Voluum manually.
Manual Cost Update
In addition to the ability to upload conversions, the manual cost update feature allows users to modify campaign costs directly through the tracker. This process is also manual and it’s very valuable in cases where your traffic sources are not sending the cost information automatically.
Lander Protection Script
There is a lot of pressure on all software providers to create a safe environment for users. Voluum has taken this chance to build a great relationship with its customers by implementing features like lander protection scripts.
This security feature allows you to protect top performing landing pages because it filters out visitors that didn’t come from a campaign URL, which improves conversion rates while reducing costs. That said, keep in mind that the code needs PHP in order to be implemented, so it can’t be used in all scenarios.
Bot Detection and Suspicious Traffic Filter
Bot traffic is a major problem in pop, native, push, and redirect traffic. In addition to making your campaign more expensive, bots can also mess with your performance metrics and make optimization confusing at best. It can cost a lot of money if not addressed, which is the reason why Voluum has implemented a suspicious traffic filter as well as bot detection capabilities.
This tracking software uses a script known as the honeypot to determine the percentage of bots clicking on your links. Installing the script is very easy too. All you have to do is copy the script with the right tracking domain into the body of the landing page you want to monitor and voila.
The honeypot script can only be used on landing pages, which means that it’s not suitable for direct link campaigns. Fortunately, Voluum also detects other types of suspicious clicks that are generated by other irrelevant sources. Some of these include:
- Different types of bots
- Clicks that occur in less than 1 second and are not possible for humans to perform
- Suspiciously frequent events
- Unrecognized devices
- Data centers
All the filters mentioned above work at the campaign level and it saves users a lot of money that would otherwise be going down the drain.
Mean time to convert, abbreviated as MTTC, is a metric that was recently made available by Voluum, but it’s already sending ripples through the marketing community. This number tells campaign managers how long it took for a user to convert. If you figure out how long it would take to read your ad and fill out the form, the MTTC will help you identify fake conversions that happen within seconds, rather than minutes.
Imagine it takes about 5 minutes to read your ad and fill out your form. But, you’re seeing conversions that occurred within 20 seconds or even less. How is that possible? The answer is that it isn’t possible, you have simply encountered a fake conversion.
Keep in mind that the time to convert varies between industries and offers, so invest time into figuring out what value works for your campaign and start there.
The markers feature is a new addition to the platform and the concept is relatively simple. It gives users the ability to put a marker or visual tag to different campaign variables depending on their performance. This allows you to quickly determine what metrics are doing well and which ones need some work.
Many lemonads users also employ this feature while creating or updating blacklists and whitelists. There are many different markers to choose from, so you can use them as reminders and for other practical purposes as well.
Voluum Panel :
Notifications and Custom Alerts
One of our favorite Voluum features is the platform’s ability to send notifications and alerts. Depending on your settings, you can get updates based on different events and milestones achieved in your campaign. You can even receive them on your mobile devices as the tracking software has apps available for both Android and iOS.
System notifications are predefined in Voluum and can be triggered by the following events :
- First conversion
- First campaign with traffic
- Different conversion cap limits
- Failed payments
- Other payment issues
Custom alerts, on the other hand, are fully personalized. You decide what events are important to you. You’re testing a new offer? Your campaign is not getting any conversions? You’re trying out a new vertical? With alerts you won’t have to be glued to your desktop. All you need to do is set up the alert criteria. Once the conditions are met you will be immediately notified.
Listicles and Multi-Step Funnel Campaigns
Listicles work wonders if you’re running native ads or campaigns through Facebook, but they also pose a problem when it comes to tracking. This setup requires deeper campaign structures and often promotes a variety of offers in one single piece.
The good news is that Voluum has implemented multi-step funnel tracking and listicle tracking specifically designed for these campaigns.
As any marketer will tell you, optimization is an art form that you can only learn via practice. Seasoned marketers may not have much use for this feature. However, if you’re just learning the ropes or don’t have much time to improve your campaign, auto-campaign optimization can be a great tool.
This feature automatically creates A/B tests that include different landers and offers in order to redirect the best traffic to the best offer based on ROI and other metrics. It works on 24-hour cycles in order to keep the results up-to-date.
Analyzing the performance of your campaign is crucial and Voluum gives you all the data you’ll ever need in a variety of formats. You can instantly create a myriad of reports that are generated in real access and include up to 30 different data points. Some of the additional analysis features include:
- Traffic logs
- Data grouping and drilldown
- Multiple currencies including dollars, pounds, euros and many more
- A dedicated reporting API
For marketers that prefer manual optimization, Voluum includes a full suite of features that make optimizing campaigns a walk in the park. For instance, you can:
- Run A/B tests for flows
- Implement UP and UA filtering
- Dynamically override redirects
- Redirect to new offers after conversion caps are reached
- Deploy rule-based targeting
Voluum Plans and Pricing
Voluum’s plans and pricing structure have undergone a lot of changes since the company emerged. After a couple of years on the slightly higher end of the scale, the tracker’s price has recently dropped and the company has also expanded the number of features available on all plans.
The Discover plan is the most affordable and it allows up to 20 campaigns as well as 3 months of data retention. It brings limited tracking features and it’s suitable for affiliates learning the ropes.
Experienced lemonads users that are seeing a boost in profits should opt either for the Profit or Grow Plans, which allow 6 and 12 months of data retention respectively. Both of them allow unlimited campaigns, multiple custom domains, and advanced tracking features.
